MOUSE Squad Mini-Grants Financial support to offset program costs for MOUSE Squad of California is provided by funding from Silicon Valley Community Foundation and our other foundation and corporate partners.

Eligibility: Public upper elementary, middle, and high schools in California
Award Criteria: Applicants should describe the following:
  • Need for a student tech leadership program at your site
  • Videos or other projects planned to assist with MOUSE Squad instruction
  • Community partnerships
  • Tools to measure impact of the MOUSE Squad program
Preference will be given to schools with significant levels of underserved students. Schools are encouraged to form clusters of two or more schools in their geographic area.

The Affinity Grant Program Due Date: Open, but funding is limited so submit your request right away
Grant: Open amount
Eligibility: San Francisco Unified Schools with low income students wanting to participate in extracurricular lessons or activities that their families are unable to afford
Award Criteria: San Francisco Unified School District teachers, administrators, counselors, and staff who work directly with students are eligible to apply for a maximum of two grants in a one-year period, one per student or group.

Best Buy Teach Awards Due Date: Every 15 days
Grant: $1,500 (as a Best Buy gift card)

Eligibility: Middle, and high schools (grades 7-12) nationwide (afterschool programs and VoTech schools not eligible)
Award Criteria: Awarded every 15 days. Teen members will be able to vote once a day for a nominated school. At the end of the 15 day voting period, votes will be tallied and the nominated schools with the most votes will be granted the Teach@15 Award. The winning school will use the award to purchase any Best Buy products that meet the need described by the Member in the online nomination form.

Target Field Trip Grants Due Date: August 1, 2011 at 12:01 a.m. CT and October 3, 2011 at 11:59 p.m. CT.
Grant: Each Target store will award three Target Field Trip Grants to K-12 schools nationwide – enabling one in 25 schools throughout the U.S. to send a classroom on a field trip. Each grant is valued up to $700.
Eligibility: Education professionals who are at least 18 years old and employed by an accredited K-12 public, private or charter school in the United States. Educators, teachers, principals, paraprofessionals or classified staff of these institutions must be willing to plan and execute a field trip that will provide a demonstrable learning experience for students.
Award Criteria: Recipients may receive a grant only once in a given school year. Grants are to be used to cover field trip costs and fees. In the event the costs and fees are less than the grant amount, the balance of the grant may be utilized for other education costs such as materials, books and resources related to the curriculum. No hard copy paper applications will be accepted.

The $1,500 program fee plus $500 first year start-up fee (see Mini-Grants above for qualified CA schools) includes:

  • 20-30 hour online curriculum correlated with state and national tech standards;
  • Trainings for Coordinators/Instructors and site team;
  • Mini-trainings for "Computer in a Box" and other hands-on activities;
  • Computer tool kit, curriculum flash drives, tech support posters, ID cards & lanyards;
  • Coordination of volunteers who assist with curriculum, help desk and mentoring;
  • Identification and coordination of internships for high school youth;
  • Interactive web space for Coordinator/Instructor sharing of ideas, activities, documents;
  • Access to web-based ticket management system;
  • Spring summit for participating California sites;
  • Site visits and overall program management and support.
