MOUSE Squad of California (MSCA) is a program of AspiraNet and is in partnership with MOUSE Inc., a New York City-based not-for-profit.

MOUSE Squad, in its 7th year of operation, enables upper elementary, middle, and high school students to provide a service to their schools while they learn Information Technology (IT), customer service, communication, and leadership skills. It can be an after-school program or an in-school elective.

The core elements of the program include:

  • Online curriculum with computer, software, troubleshooting and problem solving modules

  • Hands-on activities, videos, and performance-based assessments

  • Student-run help desk with paper and/or online ticket management systems

  • Volunteers to assist with curriculum, help desk, mentoring

  • Internships for high school youth


Does your school or agency have:

  1. 5 - 20 students interested in learning about computers?

  2. An instructor or faculty advisor interested in teaching about computer technology?

  3. An administrator supportive of students assisting teachers with their computer problems?

  4. Computers in a lab, laptops in a classroom or library, or laptops on a cart?

  5. Funding from sources such as California After-School Education and Safety grants (Proposition 49), Federal 21st Century Learning Center grants, site or district program allocations, local businesses, foundations, or service organizations, i.e. Lions Club or Rotary?

 

The $2,500 fee per site ($500 mini-grants are available for qualified California schools) includes:

  • Online curriculum that aligns with state curriculum and national technology standards

  • Training of instructor/faculty advisor and site team in the summer and fall

  • Instructor/Faculty Advisor Implementation and Training Guide, and Student Tech Guides

  • Curriculum CD and Program DVD

  • Computer tool kit, trouble ticket post-pads, USB Flashdrive, ID cards, holders, & lanyards

  • Coordination of volunteers who assist with curriculum, help desk, and mentoring

  • Identification and coordination of internships for high school youth

  • Electronic Bulletin Board and Blog for instructor/faculty advisor online sharing of ideas

  • Access to a web-based ticket management system (http://www.mytechdesk.org/product/)
    ( Note: This system is provided by the California Department of Education at no cost to all K-12 California schools)

  • Spring summit for participating California sites

  • Site visits and overall program management and support
