Many schools have computers in classrooms and labs, but not enough technicians to keep them up-to-date and operational.  So that teachers and students can access school technology, individual professionals or company employees with technology skills are encouraged to volunteer.

Volunteer Programs

The volunteer program has two options:

Option 1
STUDENT TECH SUPPORT (STS) where volunteer technicians work directly with students as they complete the MOUSE Squad curriculum.  Volunteers work with a faculty advisor to:

  • Assist students in reading and understanding the on-line MOUSE Squad curriculum
  • Teach concepts such as computer components, software and customer service
  • Help students troubleshoot computers, printers, and other technology peripherals
  • Mentor upper elementary, middle or high school students

Option 2
VOLUNTEER TECH SUPPORT (VTS) where the volunteer technician provides technical support for the school’s computer hardware and/or software. Volunteers work with IT faculty to:

  • Provide training to faculty and staff
  • Provide computer desktop support
  • Provide web and database design assistance

How It Works

The steps of the volunteer process are:

  1. Fill out the Volunteer Registration form to register your interest. You will be contacted.
  2. Attend a volunteer orientation, sign ethics agreement, and identify tentative placement choices
  3. Take TB skin test (within the last 6 months, test good for 4 years)
  4. Introductory meeting at potential volunteer site with local staff
  5. Complete fingerprinting/live scan
  6. Arrange for final placement with instructor
  7. Review MOUSE Squad curriculum online
  8. Start volunteering!
